Description

Discover the versatile world of magnesium with our high-purity 99.95% magnesium ribbon.

Magnesium is a lightweight, silvery-white metal that burns with a brilliant, intense white flame when ignited - one of the most visually striking reactions in chemistry. It's a staple of science classrooms and maker workshops worldwide.

This 25g roll of magnesium ribbon is perfect for educators, hobbyists, survivalists, and science enthusiasts alike. Magnesium is one of the lightest structural metals, with a density of just 1.74 g/cm³ - roughly two-thirds the density of aluminium.

The ribbon is supplied in a coiled roll and should be stored in a cool, dry place away from moisture to prevent oxidation.

Key Features

High Purity: 99.95% pure magnesium for reliable, consistent results.
Quantity: 25g+ roll of ribbon for multiple uses and demonstrations.
Brilliant Combustion: Burns with an intense white flame, ideal for demonstrating exothermic reactions.
Lightweight: One of the lightest metals available, with a density of just 1.74 g/cm³.
Easy to Use: Ribbon format is simple to cut to any desired length.

Applications

Educational Tool: A classic for demonstrating combustion, oxidation, and exothermic reactions in the classroom.
Fire Starting: A reliable and effective fire starter for camping, survival kits, and emergency preparedness.
Thermite and Pyrotechnics: Commonly used as an ignition source for thermite reactions and in the production of flares and fireworks.
Scientific Research: Used in a range of chemistry experiments and as a reducing agent.

Please Note

Magnesium ribbon burns at extremely high temperatures (~2,200°C) and produces an intensely bright light - never look directly at the flame.
Use in a well-ventilated area, away from flammable materials. Store in a dry environment to prevent degradation. Handle responsibly and in accordance with local regulations.

Shipping and delivery

Dispatched from Perth, Western Australia within 1–3 business days. We ship Australia-wide by Australia Post with tracking on every order. Shipping is $9.95 flat, and free on orders of $250 or more.

We send a maximum of 1kg of gallium per parcel, so a larger order arrives as more than one parcel, sometimes on different days, at no extra cost. We ship within Australia only.

Returns

If something is not right, contact us within 30 days and we will sort it out. Please get in touch before returning anything so we can arrange it properly.

Gallium often arrives liquid in warm weather. That is normal and not a fault — chill the sealed container and it will resolidify.

Common Questions

Is gallium safe?

Yes — it is non-toxic and safe to handle with normal care. Wash your hands with soap and warm water afterwards, and keep it out of reach of small children. Keep it away from aluminium: gallium permanently embrittles aluminium, and the damage cannot be reversed.

What documentation comes with my order?

A Safety Data Sheet is supplied with every order, as standard — you can also download the current SDS (PDF) at any time. Our gallium is 99.99% (4N) pure. Certificates of analysis are available on request for schools, universities and other institutional buyers — just ask when you order.

How do I clean it up?

If it solidifies on a surface, warm it with a hair dryer until it melts and wipe it up with a paper towel. Warm soapy water helps with any residue. Don't use aluminium foil or aluminium tools to scrape it.
